The Root Center - Muladhara

Root Chakra

The Root Chakra is related to instinct, security, survival and also to basic human potentiality, including spiritual potential.  The color of the root area is traditionally the energy of material reality. People with strong energy in this center usually have good survival skills. This is also the center of manifestation. If you are trying to succeed in the world either by making more money, establishing a business, or accumulating possessions, you will be focusing your energy here. This is also the place from which passion flows; the source of power and ego development. The Root Chakra links us to the physical world, solidity and support - especially to the physical body. It is the foundation of energy. The Base or Root Chakra manifests strongly in the motivation to ensure personal survival by way of food, rest, and sexual expression. Spiritually, the base chakra has to do with protection of individual integrity. It is an energy center that provides a solid ground from which to establish our equilibrium in order to ascend to higher awareness. Symbolised by a lotus with four petals. Within this chakra resides/sleeps the kundalini ( energy of consciousness )  shakti, the great spiritual potential, waiting to be aroused and brought back up to the source from which it originated, Brahman. Muladhara is the base from which the 3 main psychic channels, nadis, ida, pingala and sushumna, emerge. Located at the base of the spine and groin area, Swadhisthana is positioned at the tailbone, two finger-widths above Muladhara This is the animal or base nature.

Physical function: It is the center for  taste and smell. The Root chakra is associated with adrenals, kidneys, muscles and arterial blood. Although no endocrine organ is placed here, it is said to relate to the inner adrenal glands, the adrenal medulla, responsible for the fight and flight response when survival is under threat.

Psychological function: Survival, Vitality, Reality, Grounding, Security, Support, Stability, Sexuality, Individuality, Courage, Impulsiveness
